Veterinary Technician Assistants
Originally from South Dakota, Tosha obtained a Bachelor's degree in Animal Science with a Pre-Vet Option from Iowa State University and a Veterinary Aid Certificate from Eastern Wyoming College. She also received her Associated of Applied Sciences degree in Veterinary Technology from Eastern Wyoming College before getting her license in December 2017. Tosha has experience working with small and large animals as well as wildlife.
Tosha lives with her husband Michael and their children, Brandon and Emily. She enjoys spending time with her friends and family, camping, playing basketball, listening to music and playing with her back and white tuxedo cat, Sebastian.
Meagan was born and raised in Alliance and returned home after receiving her Bachelor's degree from Chadron State College in 2010. She also earned her EMT license in 2015.
She is married to her husband Klete and is the proud mother to three children--Taylor, Kash and Tripp. She enjoys playing softball, volunteering for the Alliance Volunteer Fire Department, camping with family and watching her children play softball and baseball.
Meagan had previously worked as a technician at The Animal Center for seven years. She is excited to be a part of the team again in the front office.
Dr. Tom Furman practices large and small animal medicine, with special interest in surgery, equine dentistry and beef cattle management.
Dr. Tom graduated from Kansas State Veterinary School in 2004. After graduation he went on a traveling internship for one and a half years. He spent three months in Las Vegas doing primarily small animal surgery with several board certified surgeons. The surgeries included knee, hip, fracture, and soft tissue surgeries. He worked at the Oklahoma City Sale Barn pregnancy testing cattle and then went on to Redcloud, Nebraska for training in multiple food animal surgeries and industry procedures.
Dr. Tom spent time in Canada where he worked with a large feedlot consulting practice that serviced 35 feedlots in the area.While Dr. Tom was in the Great White North, he also gained extensive training in equine dentistry from the veterinarian that invented the powerfloat.
Malia graduated from Alliance High School in 2001. She then went on to get a Veterinary Technician degree from Curtis, NE in 2004. After graduating, she moved back to Alliance and started working at The Animal Center as a full time technician and part time groomer. She enjoys working with both large and small animals.
Malia is married and has two kids. Her fur family consists of a German Shepherd, a heeler and 4 cats. She loves spending time with animals, family, and friends. She also enjoys camping, fishing, hunting/shooting and doing arts and crafts with children.

Back in the States, Dr. Tom practiced at Littleton Equine Medical Center, a prestigious equine hospital in Colorado. He gained special training in colic management, lameness evaluation, and treatment. From there, he went to Piedmont, South Dakota to do some reproductive work that included artificial insemination, semen collection, and embryo transfer with cattle and horses.
Dr. Tom brought all of his experiences back to Alliance in June of 2005 and has put his knowledge into practice for the benefit of his clients, both large and small.
Dr. Tom currently holds veterinary licenses in the states of Nebraska, Wyoming, Nevada, and South Dakota. He has a Beef Cattle Management Certification from the University of Nebraska, serves on the Nebraska Veterinary Medical Association (NVMA) Board of Directors, and on the Box Butte General Hospital Board of Directors. Dr. Tom graduated with a Masters Degree in Epidemiology from The University of Nebraska in December 2014. Dr. Tom also received the Young Veterinarian Of The Year award from Kansas State University for his contributions to veterinary medicine through practice and education.
Dr. Tom enjoys practicing veterinary medicine, educating clients, and operating a cattle ranch with with his dad in Alliance.
Dodi is a 2017 graduate of Classy Pup Grooming School in Loveland, CO. Dodi is an Alliance native and returned to the area in 2005 after her husband accepted employment with BNSF Railway. She resides in Alliance with her husband, Derek and two teenaged children, Reese and Rhett, as well as a small menagerie of pets, her dog Titan (pictured with her) and cats Lily and Morris Code.
Dodi has always been a lover of animals, aspiring to be a veterinarian as a young girl and known to drag home any unclaimed or lost animals she could find. Returning to animal health in such a fun and rewarding way is a complete dream come true for her. She brings with her a passion for creativity and learning, so she encourages pet owners to get creative with the looks they want to see their pets wearing. The sky is the limit!!
Stephanie joined The Animal Center in 2012. She has a B.S. degree in Animal Science from California Polytechnic University, and a M.S. degree in Animal Science from The University of Nebraska. She spent her first 5 1/2 working years managing the research feedlot for the University of Nebraska Panhandle Research Center in Scottsbluff.
Stephanie is happily married to Dr. Tom and is the proud mother of two. She loves getting to know all the clients and patients at The Animal Center and working with the caring doctors and technicians. Tom and Steph love being part of Alliance and the greater Panhandle community, and feels blessed to call The Animal Center home.
The Animal Center was founded in 1980 by Dr. Jim Furman and his wife Penny. Their eldest son Dr. Tom Furman is carrying on the next generation of exceptional animal health.

Dr. Jim Furman practices large and small animal medicine and surgery, with special interest in practice management and economics as well as acupuncture therapy.
After receiving his MS degree in 1972 in reproductive physiology and DVM degree in 1976 from Colorado State University, he entered private practice.
Dr. Furman focuses his interests on the beef cattle industry, both cow/calf and feedlot. In addition to serving on many editorial and consultant boards of scientific journals as well as pharmaceutical companies, he has published numerous professional articles.
Dr. Furman is a member of the AVMA, Nebraska VMA, AABP, Society of Theriogenology, and Academy of Veterinary Consultants (President, 1992). He was selected as the AVC Consultant of the Year and also received the AABP Award of Excellence in Preventive Medicine. In 2008, Dr. Furman served as President of the Western Veterinary Conference, one of the largest veterinary conferences in North America.
Cassie was born and raised in Alliance. She earned a bachelor’s degree at the University of Nebraska at Kearney and worked in Kearney before returning home in 2005. Cassie has been blessed to be close to her family while raising her son, Bryson, in her hometown.
Cassie enjoys watching Bryson at all of his sporting and social events as well as camping, fishing and spending time with her family.
Still going strong 35 years later!
Jazlyn has lived in Nebraska all her life and graduated from Alliance High School in 2017. She is currently taking online courses with Ashworth College. Jazlyn enjoys singing, cooking, reading and going to the gym. She also enjoys spending time with her dog, Mya.
